SQUIRREL REMOVAL FROM VENTS, walls and SOFFITS

One of the most popular animals to gain access to residential homes and properties are squirrels. Though they usually live in trees, squirrels will often move into the attics and soffits of homes and buildings.

It’s common that homeowners mistake squirrels for birds or simply put up with them in the hopes that they’ll eventually leave – but they don’t (why would they?). Squirrels that stay in a den site for extended periods of time can cause significant damage. This may include damage to insulation, urination, defecation, and chewing on wires or other structures in the area.

Squirrels are not only incredibly messy, but their small size lets them access areas behind your walls that other animals usually can’t get to. Not only do they let themselves in, but their entry points can also act as an invitation for other wildlife to come inside (Mice, Rats, Bats and Raccoons).

How does our squirrel removal service work?

WILDLIFE INSPECTION

We start all jobs with a detailed inspection to understand your unique situation. We will inspect the roof, and attic for signs of squirrel damage, feces or babies.

IDENTIFY
ENTRY POINTS

Once we've identified where the squirrels are getting in we install a one way door that allows the squirrels a way to evict themselves, while also preventing them from re-entering the area.

PROTECT &
PREVENT

The key to successful long-term protection from squirrels is to proof any potential weak points on the home or structure. Any preventative work would be installed at the same time to eliminate further damage during the removal process.

RETURN & REINFORCE

2-3 weeks following your service, we will come back to the property to remove the one way door, and repair and reinforce the entry points.

How we'll evict the squirrels:

Wondering how you get rid of squirrels? Wildlife Exclusion methods are our preferred way to control wildlife. It is the most humane, permanent, and effective method of keeping squirrels out of a home compared to trapping and relocating. We don’t think that these methods effectively address wildlife issues because they are only temporary solutions. Not only does exclusion last longer than other methods, but the homeowner doesn’t need to constantly monitor for animals or pests.

The most humane way to safely remove a squirrel from a residence is by using the one way door method. This door is as resistant as it comes – it is constructed out of a heavy gauge steel mesh, and squirrels cannot chew through this material. Following the inspection, and after locating the entry point, we install this door over the access area. This allows the squirrels to exit, and then shuts behind it preventing them from getting back inside. 2-3 weeks following your service, our team comes back to the property to remove the one way door, and repair and reinforce the entry point.

How we'll keep them out:

Squirrels, and other rodents have teeth that never stop growing. That’s the reason they’re always gnawing on things–to keep their teeth sharp and worn down. When you add their size to the equation, as well as the fact that our homes provide desirable shelter for them, it’s easy for a squirrel to access your attic. If a home is not properly sealed, they will continually find new ways to get inside and you’ll be dealing with squirrels on your roof.

During your service we install custom fit reinforcements made of industrial strength steel that squirrels cannot tamper with or destroy – This is what prevents them from breaking back in. All work done by us comes with a two-year warranty, and if you go for our full service recommendation, you’re guaranteed five years of protection! Learn More About our Preventative Sealing Services…

What if there are babies?

Most baby squirrels are born in either February or March, and then again in July or August. A litter of baby squirrels can have up to eight, but the average is usually five or six. If you find yourself overrun by squirrels in the roof, be prepared for increased activity and potential damage around your home. The mother feeds them every two to four hours for several weeks until they’re 7-8 weeks old, at which point they begin to follow their mother around the den site. If you live with a squirrel den in your attic, this is when you might start hearing noise if you haven’t already noticed the cries earlier on. By using the proper exclusion techniques, we can humanely keep mothers with their babies while providing our customers with a safe and permanent solution that doesn’t involve traps or poison.

Following the attic inspection, we will determine where the kits are located, and proceed to humanely remove them from the area. During the service the kits are removed from the den site, placed inside of a warming box that is then secured near the entry point. The goal of this is not to separate mother from her babies, but rather to keep the babies close to where the mother left them. At that point the mother squirrel will come and remove each kit 1-by-1 and relocate them to another den site in the area. We will then continue to seal up any weak spots on the home to ensure full prevention of future intruders!

If you think you might have a squirrel infestation, here are some signs to look out for.

First, listen for scratching or scurrying sounds in your walls, ceilings, or attic. Squirrels are active during the day, so you might hear them in the morning or afternoon.

Second, check for squirrel droppings, which are small, dark pellets and can usually be found near the areas where the squirrels are nesting.

Third, look for any holes or chew marks in your home or property, especially near the roofline or in the attic. Squirrels can gnaw through wood, siding, and even electrical wiring.

If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to call a professional squirrel removal service as soon as possible to prevent any further damage to your home or property.

Once squirrels have been removed from your property, it’s important to take steps to prevent them from returning. One of the most effective ways to do this is to seal up any entry points that squirrels might use to get into your home or property. These might include gaps around doors and windows, holes in your roof, or openings in your chimney. Learn more about our Preventative Sealing Services…

It’s also important to keep your property clean and free of debris, such as fallen tree branches, that could provide squirrels with a place to hide or build a nest. Additionally, consider using squirrel-proof bird feeders and removing any potential food sources, such as pet food or unsecured garbage cans.

By taking these preventative measures, you can help ensure that squirrels do not return to your property after they have been removed.

Squirrels can cause a lot of damage to the attic and other parts of your home. They often like to chew on things like wood, wires, insulation, and even pipes. This can create holes and other damage, which can allow water, insects, and other pests to get into your home. Squirrels can also create nests in your attic, which can cause even more damage. If left unchecked, squirrel damage can become quite extensive and expensive to repair. It’s important to address squirrel infestations as soon as possible to minimize the damage they can cause.

Squirrels can stay in your attic for several months or even years, especially if they find a warm, safe, and cozy place to live. Once they establish their nest, they will continue to come back to your attic until they are removed. It’s important to get rid of squirrels as soon as possible, because the longer they stay, the more damage they can do to your home and the harder it will be to remove them. If you think you have squirrels in your attic, it’s best to call a professional wildlife removal company like First Class Wildlife Removal to safely and effectively remove them.
