Raccoons are a highly common in urban areas thanks to their resilience, adaptability and intelligence. The warmth and shelter provided by an attic or under a structure becomes the perfect place to find protection, keep safe, mate, and raise their families.
Additionally we see raccoons creating dens inside chimneys, crawl spaces, sheds, window wells, and wall cavities. Although adorable, and friendly at times it is important to remember they are problematic pests when in and around your property and could carry many diseases and parasites (round worm, leptospirosis, salmonella, rabies).
RACCOON IN ATTIC
Following your attic inspection:
Our technician would install a ‘one-way’ door, that is spring loaded over the main entry point.
This One-Way Door is constructed out of heavy gauge steel mesh and allows the raccoon to safely exit the attic, while ensuring that they cannot re-enter.
The key to successful long-term protection from raccoons is to proof any potential weak points on the home or structure.
Any preventative work would be installed at the same time to eliminate further damage during the removal process.
2-3 weeks following your service, our team comes back to the property to remove the one way door, and repair and reinforce the entry point.
RACCOON UNDER STRUCTURE (decks/sheds/foundation)
Following your property inspection:
Our team will use a trenching technique when it comes to evicting raccoons from under a deck or shed.
Trenching consists of digging around the area of the structure (approximately a foot down and a foot wide) to install a heavy gauge steel mesh screen into the ground at a specific angle. This is the best long term solution because when the animals try to dig under your property they cannot find the bottom, and admit defeat and move on. Once this mesh is put in place, a one-way door is installed over the entry point allowing all animals to safely exit and ensures they cannot re-enter. We would back-fill entire area except where the door has been installed and then wait for a few days until all raccoons have removed themselves and relocated. At this time our technicians would remove the door, screen off permanently and back-fill the remaining area once and for all.
WHAT IF THERE ARE BABIES??
Raccoon Baby Seasons happens within the spring months (April-May) . If you have a raccoon in your attic during this timeline, there is a good chance you may have a litter of kits in the attic, or within your walls. Following the attic inspection our technicians determine where the kits are located, and humanely remove them from the area.
The kits are then placed inside of a warming box that is placed near the entry point. At that point the mother raccoon will come and remove each kit 1-by-1 and relocate them to another den site in the area.
The key to successful long-term protection from animals is to proof any potential weak points on the home or structure.
When it comes to protecting soffit areas, we use 3ft length of heavy gauge wire mesh which would be measured and custom fit to the width of the soffit.
It is then installed with screws, and washers to eliminate any opportunities for animals to compromise these areas
When it comes to protecting roof or exhaust vents, our technicians will take measurements of roof vent(s) and build custom covers from mesh.
This will ensure an exact fit, that is then secured with screws, washers and caulking.
All work completed is covered by our First Class Warranty.
